First For The Contract Heat Treatment Industry - ADI Treatments Ltd gains 18001 certification
September 1st, 2008

Midlands heat treatment company, ADI Treatments Ltd., is once again leading its sector by gaining what is believed to be the first certification in the contract heat treatment industry to international safety standard: BS OHSAS 18001:2007.

ADI Treatments have established themselves as pioneers in the sector with high levels of investment creating the largest purpose built Austempering capacity in the world. The company’s commitment to developing volume markets such as exist in environmental technologies (e.g. wind energy) has cut it out as a growth company. This commitment backed with excellence in customer service and in sustainable and safe heat treatments has proved a winning combination.

Simon Day Managing Director of ADI Treatments saw an opportunity when the new safety standard was published in late in 2007. The standard is aligned with his vision be the best in the world and he could think of no better way to demonstrate his commitment to safe and profitable operations than to sign up to best practice and gain certification to a challenging new international management standard.

The company based in Doranda Way, West Bromwich already holds certification to international standard ISO14001:2004 (environment) and ISO9001:2000 (quality) and is planning to combine, these into one of the first managing to a new integrated specification - PAS99 later in the year.

Simon Day chose E9 Ltd to partner with his small dedicated management team to realise his management system vision. Simon Day said “E9 understands our business and have a proven track record with their Evolve management system software, we saw this as the perfect opportunity to work together on extending the ADI management and safety systems. The whole company has pulled together with particularly important contributions from our Operations Manager – Paul Ingram and the Engineering Team lead by Paul Mayes.”

Dr. John R. Trainor, Managing Director said “ADI Treatment have really worked very hard with us on this project. Although its difficult to single out individuals, ADI’s Paul Ingram and E9’s Julian Clark have worked tirelessly to pull everything together. Since this it’s the first time our Evolve18k1 module has been tested to certification we are naturally very pleased.”

Certification is the final part of project stretching out seven months. The project gained partial financial support via the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) via a Strategic Development Grant, as part of a larger project of change and “excellence” at the company.
Stewart Donnelly Specialist Manufacturing Advisor of MAS West Midlands said “E9 presented ADI Treatments with a series of improvements within their operations that integrated with the ISO 18001:2007 standard, providing tangible outputs. MAS-WM were pleased to part fund such an improvement activity for ADI Treatments.''
